Attendees of Delano’s town meeting on Wednesday night were on hand to hear the news that the town would soon receive $300,000 from the state through an earmark initiated by its legislative delegation. Longtime Senator Stephen Brewer, Senator-Elect Anne Gobi and State Representative Denise Andrews together delivered the good news.
“I’m so very happy that seniors, who have worked so hard for so long to construct the new senior center are at last going to have a wonderful place to gather,” shared Rep. Andrews. “Council on Aging Director Bethany Loveless and the Friends of the COA have been real advocates for this project, plugging along and always persistent. I have enjoyed working with Bethany and the COA, whether it was our partnership to replace a senior transportation van or in moving this request forward, they model respectful and effective engagement that gets results.”
“I want to thank the Governor for funding this local project,” said Rep. Gobi. “The seniors of Delano will benefit greatly from this senior center. I was happy to work with Senator Brewer and Representative Andrews to secure these funds.”
“Senior centers are essential to thriving communities because they encourage socialization and civic participation,” said Sen. Brewer. “This funding will allow Delano’s seniors to lead active, independent lifestyles. This project has a been a work in progress for quite some time and I am pleased that the Town will benefit from this funding.”
